Middle School Curriculum:

Students in 6th-8th grades will use a textbook and an online learning site to complete their activities (Supersite).  Students have the opportunities to listen to native speakers, watch videos, complete a variety of activities, and much more through this site.  Additionally, they can access their book online if they do not have access to their hard copy book. There are also tutorials, games, and pronunciation practice activities that are embedded throughout each lesson.  Students participate in games and skits throughout the year.

Students in 6th grade meet twice a week for approximately 40 minutes.  Students learn to communicate in Spanish with present tense verbs.  They choose a city in Spain to research and “visit” and report back to the class as a tourist that recently visited. 

Students in 7th grade meet three times a week for approximately 40 minutes.  Students will review what they learned in 7th grade but will also learn stem-changing verbs and irregular verbs.  Sports is a big topic around stem-changing verbs, and there is a fun project with Spanish-speaking athletes/sports that the students present.  Students also study Mexico and will choose a city to research and present to the class.  They have a lot of fun pretending they are visiting and places they have visited and souvenirs they have bought!

Students in 8th grade meet three times a week for approximately 40 minutes.  Students will review present tense verbs but will learn more grammar.  For example, they will learn the difference between saber and conocer (to know) and the direct object pronouns.  They will also learn the preterite (past tense) in Spanish.  Students choose a cultural project of their choice to research and report back to the class on (Google Slides).  For example, students can choose a Posada, Quinceanera, Cinco de Mayo, etc.
